2MD VR Football (2017), a room-scale quarterback game that first landed on SteamVR-compatible headsets last September, is making its way to PSVR this spring.
Created by indie studio Truant Pixel, 2MD VR Football isn’t exactly an entire football game as such, as it puts you in the tense moments of an endgame where you, the quarterback, draw the final plays and throw the ball before the clock runs out.
Launching on PSVR this spring, the room-scale game is asking at least a 5 foot² (1.5m²) play area so you can get physically active as you throw the ball for that winning touchdown.
According to a recent PlayStation blog post, the game is inspired by “two-minute drill arcade football games of old, with primitives sliding around a bare field, falling over each other to chase down a ball.”
“Drafting plays in VR was subsequently birthed as a natural extension of using the interface to give the primitives on your “team” routes to run. It’s really no exaggeration to say that, with this game, simple and addictive fun was at its core, with the rest of the title evolving from that. We had such a good time with the concept that we committed to turning it into a full-fledged, polished experience, and 2MD: VR Football was born,” says Maher Al-Samkari, Truant Pixel President and Lead Artist.
The studio says that despite it being available on Rift, Vive, and Windows VR headsets, it’s built from “the ground-up for PSVR,” and that the PSVR release will feature music by up-and-coming Hip-hop artist K.Carter, whose fight song “Down the Field” plays during the championship game.
The game will also feature eight different stadiums, customizable teams, rapid-fire post-game bonus rounds and more.
2MD VR Football currently holds a 96% positive score on Steam, giving it a ‘Very Positive’ overall rating.
