Ever since WipEout Omega Collection (2017) added support for PSVR back in March, it became the de facto gold standard of anti-grav VR racing on the platform. Now, users looking to pop their head in to see what all the fuss is about should have their eyeballs pointed to PSN starting tomorrow, as Sony is tossing out a free WipEout Omega Collection demo replete with PSVR support.
Announced on Sony’s PS blog, you’ll be able to play on both PS4 and PSVR. For VR users, the demo includes the traditional Feisar ship, or the new Feisar VR ship and a single race on two different tracks from HD and 2048 modes.
Sony recommends new players stick to the default ‘Lock Camera To Cockpit’ controls, which ought to reduce artificial motion-based nausea (read: simulator sickness). While that’s probably the msot comfortable way to play, the ‘Lock Camera to Pilot’ mode is going to give you what you came for: the first-person experience of screaming around corners and looping around inside an anti-grav ship.
We went hands-on with the free PSVR update, and while the risk of nausea is real using the more immersive modes, it’s nothing short of a smart and skillful adaptation that brings PSVR users what they’ve been pining for: an honest-to-goodness VR WipEout.
Check out the full race below to get a peek into what lays ahead.
