‘Mr. Mercedes’ VR Escape Room to Land on HTC Vive July 22nd

Mr. Mercedes, the AT&T Audience Network mystery thriller TV series based on the titular Stephen King novel, is getting a VR escape room soon.

Dubbed Mr. Mercedes: Lair Escape, you step into the basement lair of one of the scariest killers from the mind of Stephen King, Brady Hartsfield (aka ‘Mr. Mercedes’). The VR escape room tosses you into the photorealistic recreation of the psychopath’s lair where you’ll have to solve various puzzles to find your way out. The title is said to incorporate footage directly from the set of Season 2 of the series.

Mr. Mercedes: Lair Escape was developed by VR Playhouse, Double A Labs, and AT&T AUDIENCE Network, and was created with Unreal Engine and Nurulize Atom View, a tool for volumetric data processing, color management, and delivery.

The title is headed to Viveport, HTC’s digital storefront for HTC Vive games, on July 22nd.

Mr. Mercedes: Lair Escape is currently available for demo at San Diego Comic Con, lasting from July 19th to July 21st. RSVP is required, so if you’re at Comic Con this weekend, click here to sign up.

‘Racket: NX’ Leaves Early Access, Bringing ‘Breakout’ Style Room-scale Gameplay to VR

‘Echo Combat’ to Get Second Open Beta Weekend Starting July 20th on Rift

If you didn’t get a chance to jump into the first open beta last month of Echo Combat, the upcoming online shooter expansion to Ready at Dawn’s newly renamed multiplayer game Echo VR, then you’ll certainly have a chance this weekend, as the studio is opening up their pod bay doors to all Rift users starting July 20th.

Update (July 19th, 2018): Celebrating the one-year anniversary of Lone Echo (2017) and Echo Arena’s release, the upcoming team shooter Echo Combat is getting its second open beta period this weekend, starting July 20th at 10:30 AM PT (local time here) and going through July 22nd at 10:00 AM PT (local time here). The latest open beta is said to deliver “a more stable gaming experience,” and the ability to use your weapon in your left hand.

According to a Ready at Dawn blog post, this weekend’s open beta “is the first of many scheduled throughout the rest of the year and leading up to Echo Combat’s official release. Alongside more opportunities to play Echo Combat until release, players can also look forward to new content monthly.”

Original article (June 20th, 2018): Echo Combat throws you into a beefier combat-ready avatar with a few guns and secondary weapons at your disposal. Offering a payload-based objective, much like the gametype in Team Fortress 2 (2007) or Overwatch (2016), you push the cart on a track through the winding maze as an attacker, or defend the advances of the cart by pushing it backwards and running down the three-minute game clock. Check out our full hands-on from the closed beta for a better idea of what to expect.

While the game is bound to be slightly different this time around thanks to new secondary weapons such as a shield and another explosive devices, we expect much of the gameplay to be the same, albeit with many more players to test the limits of Ready at Dawn’s servers.

Check out Echo Combat beta weekend on the Oculus Store here. The full release is slated to cost $10, so now is a great time to find out if the zero-G shooter is right for you.

Play VR MMORPG ‘OrbusVR’ on Rift for Free This Weekend

OrbusVR, the MMORPG for PC VR headsets, is getting another free access weekend very soon.

OrbusVR’s free weekend starts July 19th at 10AM PT (local time here) and goes through July 22nd at 12AM PT (local time here).

As the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign, OrbusVR went into Early Access late last year to an overall positive effect. While the game is decidedly a low-poly experience graphically, the promise of an open world MMO is undeniably attractive to many looking for the classic experience in VR.

Featuring classic MMORPG elements, including multiple quests, world bosses, dungeons, and a story taking place in a large open world, the free access weekend should give you some solid time to check out the game’s multiple player classes, dragon pets, player trading, fishing and crafting.

While OrbusVR supports HTC Vive and Oculus Rift via Steam, the free weekend is being hosted via the Oculus Store, meaning this go around is Rift-only. Owners of Vive and Windows VR headsets itching for a chance to play can should definitely look into Revive, the free utility that opens to door to Oculus platform exclusives.
