PSVR MOBA ‘Megalith’ Free Demo Lets You Migrate Progress to Full Version

Megalith (2018), the first-person PSVR battle arena from Disruptive Games, now boasts a free demo that gives you a good chance to try out all of the game’s Titans before plonking down the cash for the full game.

In Megalith you play as a powerful Titan protecting your team’s base. Each Titan has their own special abilities and preferred range, making for an interesting study in balance. It’s not just head-to-head combat though; like in typical MOBAs Megalith has little minions that stream from each base which try to push ever forward by destroying defensive towers and walls along the way to victory.

Like in the game’s open beta, users looking to try Megalith for free will be given the choice of two Titans each week out of the possible five: Aurora, Cipher, Hunter, Taur, and Tundra.

The full game of course gives you free reign to pick whatever Titan you want, although a big benefit to the free trial is the ability to earn spendable gems to unlock skins, that along with all progress, comes with you when you buy the full game.

You’ll find the free trial on the game’s store page under ‘Free Demo’. Megalith has so far been very well received on the PlayStation Store, getting a solid [4.5/5] user rating.

Oculus CTO: Quest Will Feature Same Sideloading Process as Oculus Go

Developers creating VR apps for Oculus Quest will probably have a harder time getting through the review process than they did previously with Rift or Go. Small consolation for devs who don’t make the all important Oculus Store cut: end users will still be able to sideload unsupported apps from outside of the Oculus Store.

Oculus CTO John Carmack hasn’t spoke at length on the subject yet, although he did confirm via Twitter that sideloading on Quest would be the “same process as Go.”

Sideloading on Go is far from a streamlined process. You need to follow a few key steps that aren’t exactly a simple menu toggle away such as create a developer account, install ADB drivers, allow unknown sources, and a few other things too. Oh, and you’ll also need a computer for all of this too.

We suggest you to check out the handy video guide below created by YouTuber ‘Virtual Reality Oasis’ to get an idea of what to expect on Quest:

Once you’ve completed the initial setup process though, you’ll be able to easily install unsupported APK files featuring everything from standard Android media and game apps to unsupported VR content too—however inadvisable that may be from a safety standpoint.

Oculus Quest is slated to release in Spring 2019 starting at $400. We expect to hear more about Quest either at GDC 2019 later this month. or possibly at F8 2019 at the end of April.

American Museum of Natural History Brings Visitors Closer to T. Rex with New VR Experience

HTC and the American Museum of Natural History announced that the Manhattan-based institution’s upcoming ‘T. rex: The Ultimate Predator’ exhibit is getting a new VR experience that will let museum-goers collaborate to build a Tyrannosaurus rex bone-by-bone in virtual reality.

The experience, dubbed T. rex: Skeleton Crew, was created by the Museum’s Science Visualization team, Vive Studios, and Warsaw-based AR/VR studio Immersion. The project was also undersigned by Vive Arts, HTC’s program to help cultural institutions fund and develop VR installations.

T. rex: Skeleton Crew takes up to three visitors and places them in a virtual re-imagining of the Museum’s Hall of Saurischian Dinosaurs, where they will work together to build a T. rex skeleton bone-by-bone. Completing the dinosaur skeleton transforms it into a walking, breathing beast, while simultaneously the Hall transforms into T. rex’s Montana home circa 66 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous Period.

In addition to the multiplayer VR experience, the museum will also be showing off life-sized reconstructions of T. rex at various life stages, which includes “the most scientifically accurate representation of T. rex to date, fossils and casts, large-scale projections and hands-on interactives to tell the amazing story of the iconic dinosaur,” HTC says in a blog post.

Now celebrating its 150th anniversary, T rex: The Ultimate Predator will be this year’s first major exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History.

“Virtual reality is a magical realm in which our human perceptions of time and space are suspended,” said Vivian Trakinski, the Museum’s director of science visualization. “In virtual reality, nothing is too small, too big, too fast, too slow, too distant, or too long ago to be appreciated. We hope this technology will let our visitors experience the most fantastic and inaccessible realms of nature.”

Vive Arts has seen several partnerships with museums all over the world since the program’s launch in 2017, including London’s Royal Academy of Arts, Tate Modern, Taipei’s National Palace Museum, Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle in Paris, Washington D.C.’s Newseum, and St. Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum.

The T. rex exhibition will be open to the public from March 11th, 2019, to August 9th, 2020. A version of this VR experience will also be available on Viveport starting Summer 2019.
