I'M IN A RETRO GAME WORLD! - Pixel Ripped 1989 VR Gameplay (Oculus Rift)

Time to go back in time and enter the retro gaming world in Pixel Ripped 1989 VR. Subscribe to join our VR adventures! → https://goo.gl/bSJ6L8 Pixel Ripped 1989 is a multi-dimensional homage to the early days of gaming. This VR game is a bit hard to explain, but I will try! In Pixel Ripped you are transported back in time. You play as a kid in elementary school who is obsessed with gaming. You have a retro gaming console at hand and on it you have a retro 2D game loaded. In this game you have to play through several levels to defeat an evil goblin who is able to cause trouble outside of the videogame. This means that while you play the 2D game that’s in your hand in VR, you will also be in a 3D surrounding that you need to keep your eye on. It's done amazingly well. The Void to Open New Location in Mall of America, ‘Star Wars’ VR Experience Coming at Launch

Minnesota’s Mall of America, the United States largest mall, is getting the popular VR out-of-home experience The VOID soon.

According to a report by Attractions Magazine, The Void will be opening at the Mall of America first with its successful VR experience Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire, which was created in partnership with Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB.

The Void combines physical spaces with wireless VR headsets (via backpack-mounted PCs) and tracked peripherals to create its seamless blending of the virtual and the physical world. The Star Wars VR experience itself puts blasters in your hands, and allows up to four players to head in at the same time.

“The Void brings a new level of immersive experience and storytelling to Mall of American through its state-of-the-art technology,” said Heather Brechbill-Swilley, vice president of real estate and leasing. “We’re excited to offer guests the chance to be the hero of their own adventure in a variety of beloved universes through The Void’s unique attraction model.”

We went hands-on with the Secrets of the Empire at The Void late last year, and it provided an experience that Road to VR’s Garret Bullard says “definitely nailed the feeling of Star Wars.”

Walking around the corridors on Mustafar felt like we were really sneaking into an Imperial stronghold dressed as Stormtroopers. We were greeted with the familiar cold steel and clean lined interior of an imperial base patrolled by Stormtroopers. Needless to say, the sneaking around didn’t last terribly long, and soon after landing we were engaged in combat with Stormtroopers all around us. Grabbing a physical blaster and returning fire on a group of enemies brought me back to one of my favorite scenes in A New Hope (1977) where Luke and Leia are trapped on the Death Star and must defend themselves from Stormtroopers shooting up at them from below.

The opening mark’s The Void’s first location in the Midwest. New locations coming in the near future include Atlanta, Austin, Hollywood, New York City, Philadelphia, Santa Monica, and Washington D.C.

Its uncertain when the Mall of America location is set to open, although Mall organizers state it’s “opening soon.”

Adventure Platformer ‘Moss’ Gets Support for Windows VR Headsets, Improved Vive Controls

Watch ‘Beat Saber’ in Action on PSVR

Though a release date still hasn’t been announced, lightsaber VR rhythm game Beat Saber was confirmed earlier this year to be coming to PSVR. Now PlayStation Underground, Sony’s official video series, is showing the game in action on the system, including a full playthrough of the PlayStation VR exclusive song, ‘Kumquat’.

In the video above, the PlayStation Underground folks play a few songs of Beat Saber on PSVR, offering a good look at how the game plays on PlayStation VR. So far the studio has announced that the PSVR version will have at least one platform exclusive song, ‘Kumquat’, which is played in full in the video. (Though I doubt it will stay exclusive for long, once custom song makers get their hands on its beat layout).

Beat Saber has been quite the hit on PC VR headsets where it quickly hit the 100K milestone despite still being in Early Access. PSVR owners have naturally been eyeing the game, and got good news back in June when the studio behind the title, Beat Games, announced that it’s headed to PlayStation VR.

How to Install (and fix) 'Beat Saber' Custom Songs

Last month at E3 we got our first hands-on time with Beat Saber on PSVR and found a promising adaptation generally works well, but isn’t immune from issues caused by the headset’s limited tracking area:

At the game’s first showing on PSVR, here at E3 2018, Beat Saber made a promising impression. While the Move controllers don’t feel quite as responsive as the controllers on the major PC VR headsets, but tracking on PSVR was solid enough that I could handle the game’s tracks on the highest level of difficulty without much frustration. The only major issues came when my controllers exited the camera’s narrow field of view, which happened at one point in a song when I had to duck under one of the obstacles and hit notes while ducking, which ended up leaving my hands outside of the tracking cone, and unable to hit the notes.

[…]

Beyond the tracking limitations, the Move controllers physically feel quite nice for Beat Saber, considering that the shape of the handle is very hilt-like and easy to hold without accidentally squeezing the trigger during play. The haptics in the Move controller is also well suited to the game, offering a strong and satisfying vibration when hitting each note.

In the PlayStation Underground video above, it can be seen that the user is playing from a seated position (which causes trouble with the ducking obstacles). While it seems the vast majority of players on PC play the game standing, PSVR players more often tend to play VR while seated, so the game might need to include seated and standing modes to prevent such issues.

Though there’s no release date for Beat Saber on PSVR yet confirmed, we expect to see it launch by the end of 2018.

Samsung Odyssey Drops to $400 and HP to $200 as Steep Discounts Continue for Windows VR Headsets

If you’ve been eyeing a Windows VR headset, you’ll be interested to see the huge discounts currently available from Amazon US on most Windows VR headsets. Samsung’s Odyssey headset is seeing a rare drop to $400 while the HP headset is down to a staggering $160.

Updated 7/30/18

The Windows “Mixed Reality” VR headsets launched late last year, and today you can pick one up with some steep savings currently available from Amazon US. Here’s a quick look at each headset’s MSRP and the currently available price (brand new, including controllers):

While at least one of the Windows VR headsets from Acer, Dell, HP, or Lenovo can usually be found with a healthy discount, Samsung’s Odyssey headset—which is positioned as the premium Windows VR headset—is rarely found discounted from its $500 MSRP. However Amazon US is currently offering an exclusive discount for Prime members, dropping the headset to $400. You can get the deal by signing up for a free Prime trial. The Odyssey is different from the other Windows VR headsets with best-in-class resolution of 1,600 × 1,440 and a wider field of view. Unfortunately the Odyssey appears to still not be available in Europe.

The reasoning surrounding the ongoing discounts seen on Amazon US isn’t clear—nor is it apparent if they are permanent, or how long they might last if they aren’t—but for many months now we’ve seen the headsets trade places being the cheapest, and occasional discounts from the Microsoft store have followed a similar pattern. It’s seems likely that the discounts are helping to drive the slow but steady adoption of Windows VR headsets on Steam.

When the Windows VR headsets were first announced all the way back in 2016, their ~$400 price point was mighty compelling against the then quite pricey Rift ($600) and Vive ($800). But by the time the Windows VR headsets actually made it out the door in late 2017, those incumbents had seen their own major price cuts—now with the Rift at $400 and the Vive at $500—giving the Windows VR headsets much less of an edge of price. But with the discounts available on Windows VR headsets today, they represent a rather attractive value option for new users hoping to jump into VR, especially if you’re just looking to get in on some Beat Saber.

Google Launches Chrome for Daydream Headsets, Yes it Has Incognito Mode

Today Google has launched an update for Chrome, bringing support for Daydream headsets including the View and the Lenovo Mirage Solo.

Google today announced that Chrome for Android is getting an update that brings proper VR support to Daydream headsets. The update is available starting now; those using Android phones need only to update their Chrome app, at which point they’ll find the app ready to launch in the headset alongside their other VR apps. Users of the Mirage Solo will finally be able to find and install Chrome from the Daydream store inside the headset.

Google says that Chrome for Daydream headsets is a full featured release, including voice search, saved bookmarks, and Incognito Mode, which could come in handy. The browser is also getting some VR-specific features, including a “cinema mode”, which Google says “optimizes web video for the best viewing experience in VR.”

Technically, Chrome has been available to those using Daydream View headsets since September 2017, but the feature was largely hidden because it could only be launched by opening the browser on a phone in non-VR mode, and then sticking the phone into the View headset with the browser open; the Chrome app didn’t actually show up in the headset’s library of Daydream apps. The new version can still be launched in this way, meaning you can easily navigate to a webpage on your phone and then pull it up in VR mode by simply putting the phone into the headset.

When it came to the Lenovo Mirage Solo though, the first standalone Daydream headset, the fact that it isn’t a phone meant that there wasn’t even a way to install Chrome in the first place, since the app wasn’t listed as a VR app in the Daydream app store, and the headset can’t access non-VR Android apps. The lack of a web browser on the Mirage Solo was odd given Google’s klout in the browser space, but thankfully with today’s Chrome update the app will now appear in the Daydream app store right inside the headset.

‘Archangel’ Developers Create in ‘Oculus Medium’ to Bring Giant Mechs to Life

Skydance Interactive, the studio behind Archangel (2017) and the recent multiplayer expansion Hellfire, today released a video on just how they made their building-sized mechs.

Concept artist Bryant “Momo” Koshu designed mechs for the game, and says it took him at least six months to figure out the exact design of the single player game’s cockpit using standard tools such as Adobe Photoshop. Later including Medium in his creative process, Oculus’ VR sculpting and modeling program, Koshu says he reduced the time down to a little over a week to create the updated cockpit design.

“We went through the process in a matter of weeks,” says Skydance Interactive Producer Mark Domowicz. “Part of that is Momo. He’s a ninja with the software. Part of that is just the toolset; you can just jump in and put something together, kit-bash something together.”

“This is more than just sculpting,” says Koshu. “This can actually be used for the whole video game pipeline.”

Oculus Plans to Let You Bring Your ‘Medium’ Sculptures Into Home

Skydance tells us Koshu first uses Medium when prototyping, and then adds final touches using ZBrush, Autodesk 3ds Max, Unreal Engine 4 and other tools.

Originally launched in 2016 with Touch, Medium recently got an overhaul via its 2.0 update, which brings a new file management system and a “major UI facelift,” designed to help artists work better and faster. If you’re interested in creating with Medium, check out these updated tutorials from Oculus.

HTC Pushes Back On Reports of Declining Headset Sales

Microsoft is Adding Pass-through Video to Windows VR Headsets

A beta version of Windows 10 now includes support for a pass-through video mode for Windows VR headsets, allowing users to look out at the world around them through the headset’s on-board cameras.

This week Microsoft released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17723 to users who are part of the Windows Insider Program. The update includes a new feature for Windows VR headsets called ‘Mixed Reality Flashlight’. Activated either through a voice command or a controller shortcut, the Mixed Reality Flashlight makes two circular video windows into the real world appear before the user; each window is positioned based on where the user is pointing their controller. The video seen through the windows comes from the headset’s on-board cameras, which have up until this point been reserved solely for inside-out tracking. The HTC Vive and Vive Pro have a similar function, though it goes widely unused, likely due to the ‘tron mode’ filter which is applied by default and low resolution.

Seen in action in a video by YouTuber ‘NXTwoThou’ below (loud volume warning), the pass-through video is monochrome, likely because the cameras on the headset don’t have any color sensors (in order to devote as much of the camera sensor as possible to resolution and dynamic range which is important for the inside-out tracking). Microsoft says the video portals are “low-latency,” but doesn’t offer more detail.

It isn’t clear why they decided to show only a small portion of the view at once, and to attach the position of the view to the controller instead of directly to the user’s head. It could be explained by not wanting the user to easily see the entire edge of the video feed at once (which could be cropped smaller than headset’s full field of view). So far Microsoft hasn’t said anything about being able to use the video feed for augmented reality purposes, something that HTC has begun experimenting with on the Vive Pro.

Pass-through video is a convenient way to find your headphones, controllers, etc without removing the headset. While almost all of the Windows VR headsets have a handy flip-up visor which lets you easily take a quick peek into the real world, the Samsung Odyssey will surely enjoy the Mixed Reality Flashlight feature as it lacks the flip-up visor.

If you want to preview the update you can join the Windows Insider Program to update to Build 17723, otherwise you’ll get the update later when it launches widely through Windows Update.

‘Rec Room’ Update Adds Teams to Battle Royale Mode

Rec Room, the social virtual world filled with mini-games and activities, recently introduced a battle royale mode called ‘Rec Royale’. A new update now allows players to group up in squads of three for team-based strategic action.

‘Rec Royale’ in Rec Room tosses a big group of players out of a plane onto a large island where they fight with guns and grenades to see who will be the last one standing. When the mode was first introduced it was free for all, with only one player crowned the ultimate victor.

A new update today puts players in groups of three, recreating the popular ‘squads’ mode of other rattle royale games. According to the developers, the Rec Royale squads mode is replacing solo mode for the time being (to ensure a healthy player population), but they may later reintroduce solo mode.

Now that players can team up, a ‘knock down’ mechanic has been introduced, meaning that players don’t die right away but rather get knocked down and can be revived by teammates. It’ll take a few seconds to get one of your friends back on their feet though, so timing is key. Along with the knock down and revive mechanics, the patch also introduces ‘radio voice chat’, which means teammates can hear each other even when they are out of shouting distance.

In addition to squads, the patch includes improvements for custom rooms and a handful of other changes, see the full changelog here.

Google is finally bringing the official YouTube VR app to the Oculus Store for Samsung Gear VR soon. Google also announced a new social feature coming alongside the Gear VR app which will allow you to chat with friends while watching videos.

Gear VR owners have been waiting for an official YouTube VR app since the headset officially launched in late 2015. Previously, users would need to navigate to YouTube via VR web browsers such as Samsung Internet or Oculus Internet, which admittedly wasn’t to best way to view the video platform’s variety of content, which spans 360 degree, VR180, and standard formats.

Another recent development in the world of YouTube VR is the app’s new social viewing mode, dubbed ‘Watch Together’. Google says in a blog post that the new feature will let you “watch and discuss videos with others in a communal, virtual space,” although we have little to go on in terms of how that’s handled outside of this short gif below which shows thumbnail versions of avatars while viewing a 360 video. The company says it will be available on Daydream View and Gear VR.

The company also proclaims that YouTube VR now supports Samsung Gear VR, Daydream View, HTC Vive, and PSVR. That’s not really the whole story though.

Despite the fact that Gear VR is ‘powered’ by Oculus, and hooks into the Oculus Store for content, noticeably missing from the list of supported devices is any mention Oculus Go or Oculus Rift, the latter of which is actually supported via the YouTube VR app on Steam; it would be nigh impossible to create a HTC Vive exclusive when publishing through Steam using Valve’s OpenVR API and added benefit for user-created custom keybindings for SteamVR-compatible controllers.

While the Gear VR app isn’t out yet, it could be possible that Oculus Go will see de facto support too, but Google just doesn’t want the headlines to skew that way right now. Oculus themselves tell developers that “most Gear VR apps will run unmodified on Oculus Go,” so it may be when the app launches that Go users can get a crack at it too, although this is pure speculation.

We’ll be keeping our eyes out when the Gear VR app launches later this week, and updating this piece when more information arrives.

Airship Adventure ‘Bow to Blood’ to Land on PSVR Next Month

Tribetoy’s airship adventure Bow to Blood, which was first announced at last year’s Paris Games Week, now has an official launch date on PSVR.

Coming August 28th exclusively to PSVR, the single player game pits you against AI competitors in a futuristic reality TV spectacle that will have you racing and battling in an otherworldly arena setting.

The game features procedurally generated encounters, meaning no two fights will be exactly the same. At your disposal is a mighty airship with a compliment of weapons, an AI crew, and a laser pistol for when the enemy gets too close for comfort.

According to a PS blog post, you’ll also be able to strike deals with AI challengers, which you can either fully honor or renege on for your own personal gain. Selfish decisions, Tribetoy says, “can quickly make enemies out of allies.”

Check out the quick gameplay trailer below to see a little more about Tribetoy’s upcoming Bow to Blood.

14 Minutes of ‘Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR’ Gameplay

Ninja Theory’s BAFTA award-winning action-adventure game Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (2017) is coming to Oculus Rift and HTC Vive soon. Here’s 14 minutes of gameplay, taken after the game’s initial intro.

The task at hand: battle the god’s of the Norse mythological realm Helheim, and overcome Celtic warrior Senua’s inner-struggles along the way.

Easily delivering more than seven hours of gameplay, Hellblade offers a new immersive look at the already rich world, which is teeming with demons and gods ripped from the few surviving texts detailing the Norse mythology. Like the PC/console game, it’s played in the third-person.

The game does have a few caveats, as you’ll notice in the gameplay video. Some textures pop, and geometry isn’t as solid as the PC version, although these are mostly minor complaints to what’s overall an impressive, and high quality VR implementation. You’ll also need a fairly beefy setup to run it though – at least an Intel i5 3570K or AMD FX-8350, 8 GB RAM, and either a NVIDIA GTX 1080 or AMD Radeon RX 580.

The VR edition is a free update to the Steam version of the PC game, and releases July 31st.

This is What it Looks like to Be a VR DJ in ‘Electronauts’

Electronauts, the upcoming co-op music making game from Survios, is confirmed to be launching with support for mixed reality video through LIV, a tool for compositing yourself into VR for video streaming and capture.

Liv, a tool that helps streamers and content creators set up mixed reality video in VR games, is gaining ground with recent official support for Beat Saber, and now Electronauts, among others, which is due out later this year. Liv also supports many Unity-based VR titles without direct integration from developers. Below you can see the Electronauts Liv integration in action and see how players will be able to spin some sick beats in VR:

Electronauts is the next VR experience to come from Survios, the studio behind Raw Data (2017) and Sprint Vector (2018). The title is quite the departure from those previous projects, as it takes the shape of a much less ‘game’ focused experience and instead focuses on music making creativity. Learn more from our hands on with Electronauts earlier this year.

Sony’s First-party Platformer ‘Astro Bot: Rescue Mission’ Heading to PSVR in October

Sony’s Japan Studio, the minds behind The Playroom VR (2016), today announced that their upcoming platformer Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is headed to PSVR in the US on October 2nd, 2018. European availability will come a day later, October 3rd.

Japan Studio Creative Director and Producer Nicolas Doucet announced the news via a quick video interview explaining some of the game’s core elements, which include a unique way of interacting with your cute little robot buddy, Astro. Using the Dual Shock 4 gamepad, you collect gadgets that you then use to help Astro on his way through levels to reunite him with his lost crew.

We went hands-on with the charming and cheerful Astro Bot: Rescue Mission back at E3 2018 in June, and walking out of the demo it was clear that Astro Bot has taken some classic Mario-style platforming elements and mixed them in VR to awesome effect.

The game is launching exclusively on PSVR; if the rest of the game, which Doucet told us would take around 8 – 10 hours to complete its 26 levels, holds true to the amount of fun we had during the E3 demo, it appears PSVR could be getting another system-selling hit on its hands. Check out our hands-on here for more.

The game is said to be heading into pre-order later today for $40.

Horror Roguelike ‘The Persistence’ to Land on PSVR Tomorrow, Mobile App to Offer Couch Co-op

The Persistence is an upcoming rougelike shooter from Firesprite Games, the studio behind The Playroom VR. Set to release July 24th, the procedurally generated title aims to present an interesting mix of asymmetrical gameplay by allowing a single VR player to do the heavy lifting while others connect via their phone or tablet and disable (or enable) traps, baddies, and scavenge for goodies.

Update (July 23rd, 2018): Firesprite recently revealed a gameplay trailer that gives us a quick look at how the game’s smartphone app will work, which lets you play couch co-op style with friends.

https://youtu.be/6ah35_jqplg

Original Article (February 2nd, 2018): Set aboard an out-of-control science and research vessel called ‘The Persistence’, you’re tasked with combating the now mutated crew of survivors, the results of a failed teleporter experiment. One more problem; The Persistence is also being pulled into the gravity of the collapsing star, and it’s your job to save the ship.

While you can fight back against the zombie hordes with its many guns, the blogpost announcing the game puts special emphasis on the need for stealthiness. According to the blogpost, locomotion is “smooth FPS controls,” but you’re also equipped with a short-range teleporter which is “perfect for moving stealthily between cover.”

Using a phone or tablet (local play only), your friends can also join in on the fun by ‘hacking’ into Solex, the ship’s engineering system. Here, your headset-less friends can decide to help you, or cash in on a big payday if you die by spawning new enemies and make them attack.

The Persistence is currently available for pre-order at $30.

‘Megaton Rainfall’ is Getting Rift & Vive Support Next Month, PS Move Support for PSVR

Megaton Rainfall (2017), the superhero game from Pentadimensional Games that lets you become an indestructible, interdimensional superbeing, is finally getting a VR mode for PCVR users next month. To boot, PSVR users are getting a free patch that will include PS Move support.

Pentadimensional today announced the news via a tweet, saying that Megaton Rainfall will be landing on the Oculus Store (Rift), SteamVR (Vive, Rift), Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One with 4K support for Xbox One X in August.

SteamVR and Oculus Store versions will release August 9th. The PS Move patch doesn’t have a specific launch date at the time of this writing.

Megaton Rainfall first launched as a timed exclusive on PS4 and PSVR back in October 2017. Although it later launched on Steam only a short while later, the version was for traditional monitors only, and didn’t include VR support. Not only are owners of Oculus Rift and HTC Vive going to get a chance at the well-received superhero title, but according to Pentadimensional’s tweet, all VR platforms will be getting full motion control support too. At the time of last year’s PSVR launch, the only supported controller was DualShock 4.

How to Install (and fix) ‘Beat Saber’ Custom Songs

If you’re a serious Beat Saber player, you probably installed the unofficial mod allowing for custom songs, and also probably realized that the v0.11.0 update this week made your custom songs disappear. If you didn’t already custom songs installed, you’ll definitely want to! This guide will show you how to install the unofficial Beat Saber custom songs mod and how to fix it after patch v0.11.0.

The developers of Beat Saber are working on an official custom song editor, but the game’s community quickly beat them to the punch with a unofficial mods which works surprisingly well, allowing you to browse and install new songs from directly inside the game.

The Beat Saber Mod Manager installs and updates the mods necessary to make this happen and it’s dead simple to install. Here’s how (an optional step below will fix the broken custom songs issue for those who had installed them prior to v0.11.0):

  1. Download the latest version of BeatSaberModInstaller.exe (1.9 at the time of writing).
  2. (Optional) If you installed custom songs prior to v0.11.0, open the Beat Saber directory and rename the ‘Plugins’ folder to ‘PluginsOLD’.
  3. With the game closed, launch the .exe, confirm that the game’s directory is correctly selected, then install the core mods (the ones checked by default, select extras if you wish). [the .exe may trigger a warning from Windows when you run it]

Note: As of 7/19/2018, the only mods that are working are the core mods from the installer. You can run the installer again later to check for updates which may fix the other mods.

That’s it. Now when you launch Beat Saber you’ll find a new button on the main menu which says ‘BeatSaver’, click this to browse and download new songs which will appear in the usual song list below the official songs.

Shout out to elliotttate on Reddit who provided the instructions, and the volunteer developers who have created these features and made it easy for the rest of us: xyonico, andruzzzhka, Umbranoxio, xyonico, taz030485, and other contributors and beat map makers!

Capcom: Don’t Expect VR Mode for ‘Resident Evil 2’ Remake

It looks like the UK’s Daily Star had the opportunity to reveal a little more behind why Capcom’s horror-adventure Resident Evil 2 remake, slated to release in early 2019, most likely isn’t getting a VR mode after all.

Before the E3 2018 Sony showcase reveal, many VR fans theorized that the long-awaited remake of Resident Evil 2 (1998) could possibly follow in the steps of the company’s latest VR breakout success, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017), which featured a much-lauded PSVR mode.

UK tabloid Daily Star sat down with Capcom producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi at E3 last month, revealing a little more behind the reasoning for the game’s lack of VR mode:

“We’re not thinking about VR support currently, given that the camera perspective and the over-the-shoulder choice would mean that VR is not the best way to present the game,” Tsuyoshi Kanda said. “VR doesn’t match the vision for us,” he concluded.

While it’s good the producers don’t want to implement an imperfect solution for VR gamers, it’s a sad to put a nail in the coffin so soon—especially for a game series that garnered some serious love from the PSVR community.

Only a few days after launch of Resident Evil 7, nearly 10% of the registered players were enjoying it in VR. Awards were aplenty too, as it earned a Golden Joystick for Best VR Game of 2017 and Best AR/VR Game at the 2017 Game Awards.

Comic-Con’s ‘Jack Ryan’ VR Park Pulls Out All the Stops in 60,000 Sqft Facility

San Diego Comic-Con is well underway, and it appears our friends over at VR Scout got a chance to try out one of the coolest looking VR activations there. The upcoming Amazon Prime TV series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, which is set to air next month, was the impetus of what can only be described as the most epic VR park installations we’ve seen recently.

Outfitted with a backpack mounted PC, a modified Oculus Rift, hand and foot trackers, and a repelling harness, VR Scout’s Jonathan Nafarrete got a chance to play the part of Jack Ryan, the series’ field operative protagonist, as he rappelled from a helicopter, braved death-defying heights, shot down insurgents, zip-lined to safety, and drove a motion platform-assisted personnel vehicle the hell out of there.

Much like VR parks such as The Void, physical objects like crates and walls are perfectly matched to their virtual counterparts in-headset, giving the user an extra layer of immersion that only location-based facilities have been able to replicate. VR Scout reports the Jack Ryan VR activation took up a 60,000 sq ft (~5,500 sq m) area.

Costumed attendants play the part, and guide Nafarrete through the VR experience. While it’s clear Nafarrete can only hear his guides and can’t actually see them, it certainly makes for an awesome spectacle for any of the Comic-Con goers waiting in line for their chance at what Nafarrete called “another level” above other location-based VR parks.

New ‘Beat Saber’ Update Adds a Secret Song – Here’s How to Unlock It

Spoiler Alert: don’t watch the video if you want to solve the riddle yourself! Beat Saber got an update today which was mostly full of fixes and under the hood changes, but it also added a secret song that can be unlocked by solving a riddle offered by the developers. Here you’ll find the riddle, and if you aren’t the puzzling type, we’ve got the answer for you too.

Beat Saber got an update to v0.11.0 today, and while you’ll still have to wait until a future update brings the promised custom song editor, the developers have previewed a bit of what’s to come by hiding a new song in the game. The only clue they offered for those who want to unlock it is as follows:

Go to the place where your journey should have started.
Maybe something is meant to be otherwise than stated.

If you aren’t in the mood to go searching, you can watch the video below for the solution. Spoiler Alert: the video contains the answer to the riddle, and below we share track details of the new song.

The hidden song is called Angel Voices by artist Virtual Self. As far as Beat Saber’s official songs go, it’s a beast, clocking in at 6 minutes and 12 seconds at 166 BPM with 1,202 notes (on expert), which is about three or four times the length of most of the original songs.

The v0.11.0 update to Beat Saber also brought a series of other welcomed changes; the official changelog is noted here:

  • Settings for how in-game menu can be triggered added (instantly or long press)
  • Volume settings added
  • Swap Colors settings added
  • Static Lights gameplay options added
  • No Obstacles gameplay options added
  • “Cut in any direction” tutorial voiceover and text added
  • Fixed simultaneous vibration of both Oculus Touch controllers (only with -vrmode oculus)
  • Fixed calculation of maximum possible score
  • Fixed bug where you can spawn too far from the platform
  • Legendary Hardcore Flying Car!

The studio also said the update brings “heavy refactoring of almost everything inside,” which ought to pave the way for the upcoming custom track editor.

PSA for any hardcore Beat Saber players out there who have installed custom music, be aware that this update will likely break your custom library, and you’ll need to install new versions of mods to get everything working again.

Oculus Announces First Retail Bundle: Rift + ‘Marvel Powers United VR’

‘Marvel Powers United VR’ Launch Trailer Reveals Total Hero & Villain Line-up, Watch It Here

Oculus and Sanzaru Games today revealed the official launch trailer to Marvel Powers United VR, and it appears we know who the last six hero slots are going to. And the game’s ultimate villain reveal is easily the greatest of them all.

Marvel Powers United VR is an upcoming co-op VR game created by Marvel Games, Sanzaru Games, and Oculus Studios. Featuring co-op missions, you use each superhero’s unique powers in online multiplayer, revisiting some of the familiar Marvel locations made famous in films past.

The game, which is already available for pre-order for $40, is set to launch on Oculus Rift July 26th.

As seen in the launch trailer, the studios today revealed that Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, and Doctor Strange are all coming to the cast of playable heroes, filling out four of the six remaining character slots. If you watch carefully at the end though, you’ll also see that X-Men’s Storm and Iceman are coming to the game too.

The total 18-hero lineup includes: Black Bolt, Black Panther, Black Widow, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Crystal, Deadpool, Doctor Strange, Gamorra, Hawkeye, Iceman, Rocket Raccoon, Spider-Man, Star-lord, Storm, The Hulk, Thor, and Wolverine.

Up until today, there was one spot left in the villain lineup, and with the newest launch trailer, it’s clear Marvel Powers United VR is getting the greatest Marvel villain in recent history: Thanos.
